Rob Parker questions Robert Griffin's blackness - Broowaha

Rob Parker questions Robert Griffin's blackness - Broowaha

Many people tune into ESPN wanting to watch sports and sports commentary. What they instead get with “First Take” is a racially motivated program that puts into question the ethics behind everyone involved in the show. “First Take” has gradually made more topics around race with Stephen A. Smith being the catalyst behind these discussions. Many times race will be inserted into a discussion to the point it is questionable journalism. Case in point being the very recent guest of Gabby Douglas who is an American of African descent who recently won a gold medal in London. Instead of speaking about sports she was badgered to talk about her views on her race. She handled herself in an admirable way, but I am sure she was confused as to why she was answering these questions. When a program decides to focus on race to increase ratings it lets itself become a forum for off color comments. Whatever comments that occur are the fault of the network for allowing an atmosphere that encourages vague racial discussions.
All of this has led up to the most infamous incident that occurred on thursday. Once again the topic of discussion was centered around race as they spoke about Robert Griffin’s statement that he does not want to be defined by his skin color. Rob Parker took RG3’s comment to mean that he is not a real black man because he is against the cause of black people as a race. The idea of questioning someone’s blackness is not a new phenomenon, in fact there is a term commonly used dating back to the 1800’s by the name of an “Uncle Tom.” This is the name that fellow african americans use to describe someone who is too quick to be subservient to white people and white culture in general. To denounce someone as an “Uncle Tom” as Rob Parker has done is a pompous move that honestly takes quite a bit of Gall. Someone could very easily point the finger back at Rob Parker and call him the same. Here is a man who pretends to be the judge of all real black people and yet he is part of the elite media and working for a company worth over 50 billion dollars. The program if anything helps divide the races as it puts everything into racial terms. How exactly is he helping and not hurting race relations by being part of this commercialized television program?
I also take issue with the ignorant politicization of Rob Parker as well. He first showed his own racism by condemning Robert Griffin for being engaged to a white woman and then took issue with him being Republican or maybe even just for knowing a republican . His assumption being that these infinitely wealthy Democrats do indeed have the back of “his people.” Quite a preposterous thought of pure ignorance to top off his calmly stated rant to put it into the hall of fame of bonehead comments. His comments wreak of so much ignorance he can almost come off as a sympathetic figure. Stephen A. Smith further complicates things by also politcizing this program by makings sure to have pictures of politicians on his fanpage. I thought this program was supposed to be about sports?
Because of the terrible nature of slavery it has taken a very strong affect on the society we live in. As there should be, there is sensitivity when speaking about race in the United States. This same sensitivity that whites must use in our unwritten rules of society do not go for Americans of African descent. This is the result of many white people with guilty consciences giving African Americans more of an opportunity to express their feelings on race than their white counter parts. Whether this is good for society or not I am unsure. What I do know is that it opens the door to programs like “First Take” to exploit it to garner ratings. I do not expect ESPN to make intellectually stimulating programming all the time, but they do need to escape the low brow barber shop nature of this show and usher in programing with an essence of integrity.

Burn That Fat - Weight loss blog

Burn That Fat - Broowaha

The government is supposed to be there to help us, but very often their policies leave me wondering what their true intentions are. I have this belief because the government is not a good resource for nutritional information. That fact is proven in that they rarely ever update the information they distribute to their citizens. You never hear the government say anything more than telling you to watch your calorie count. That is obscenely vague to the point it is harmful. That is because it is now known that calories from carbs are not equal to those from protein. The truth of the matter is that calories from carbohydrates are harder to burn off than those from protein. If the government knows this then why aren’t they explaining it? That of course goes back to the profits they make on sugar.
What every child in school should learn growing up is that carbs, and especially sugar have a pronounced effect on our insulin levels. Insulin is your carrier hormone and without it you cannot store fat. By lowering your sugar and carbohydrate intake you are putting yourself in a position to reduce your current weight. The combination of misinformation distributed by society and by our government leads people to ignorantly get addicted to sugar. Addicted to sugar? Yes, that was not a typo as sugar is in fact as addictive as cocaine. This fact is a very important factor when trying to lose weight. Just like kicking illegal drugs, it takes three days for those crazy cravings to go away. I myself found this out the hard way when I first started a low carb diet. About 32 hours into my diet I cracked and consumed a can of ginger ale that had sugar in it. I really felt like this time was it, I was actually going to be serious about doing a real diet. Because I was unable to stay away from sugar I then felt like a complete failure and also quite guilty. That was enough for me to power through the next time I felt the urge to consume some sugar. Eventually the cravings went away as I switched all my sweetners from sugar to either stevia or splenda and things became normal for me.This was of course a new normal as I now no longer felt like an addict to sugar.

Halloween in Miami 2010

WATCH OUR VIDEO FROM THIS WILD WEEKENED HERE!
Every year in New york we have plenty of great options around Halloween. Whether you go to a house party, the parade in the city, or to a club to see your favorite DJ . But.. New York is cold and you go to a lot of the same parties every year. Time for change, time for more sun, less clothes, and even crazier partying. Miami is where it's at and that is what this edition is about.
I'll fill you in on some of the festivities you may have missed and I'll end with a couple of observations on Miami. Be sure to check out the video attached here with plenty of great footage from this wild Halloween weekend.

FRIDAY
Leaving behind the cold and jumping off that airplane into a warm tropical environment with plenty of parties ahead, we were obviously very excited. Friday night we started out at Aerobar to see
DJ Estrella spin. He is a NY based DJ. We had seen him before and he once again did a great job.
Aerobar is a smaller club, but it is extremely nice. Nothing but good beats and friendly people. I definitley recommend checking this place out. It features a nice long bar, room to dance, and a very nice VIP section as well. But the night was young and... "Cab's here!" because it was time to go check out MindControl at Cameo. MindControl are also NY based DJ's (Peter Baily and Richie Santana) who are slowly getting more well known outside of the NorthEast. They did an excellent job and Cameo turned out to be a really nice club as well. There was a pretty good amount of room and the upstairs mezzanine was my favorite part of the club. The one downside to the club is definitely the VIP section that is placed exactly where a main dancefloor should be. Overall it's a great club, but what is a club without a dancefloor? It's more of a lounge if you think about it.

SATURDAY
Saturday night was all about Boris at club Space. Boris is very well known in both Miami and New York and club Space is one of the premier clubs in the entire world. It's very large, insane system, and stays open into the morning. It's a mega club that gets more tourist traffic than locals and definitely lives up to the hype. Just be prepared to fight your way in and don't be surprised to pay as much as $80 for a ticket. That was the price saturday night, which in my opinion is a little much.
This is a really great party, but I would not say the best of the parties during Halloween weekend in Miami. That party would happen Sunday..

SUNDAY
I started Sunday at the beach and knew I would be in for a long and enjoyable day.
After relaxing I caught a cab out of South Beach across the causeway into downtown Miami.
A rooftop pool party on the top of the Viceroy hotel. I think the video attached speaks for itself.
Carabetta and Doons had us jammin' into the night. We walked out of there in a good mood and caught a cab back to South Beach to get ready for Carl Cox at club Mansion. Carl Cox really killed it and it was so much fun and a blur at the same time, lol. Carl is an incredible DJ who has lived quite an interesting life. He has been a DJ since the mid eighties and was voted number one DJ in the world by DJ magazine at one time in 1997. He will also unfortunatley always be tied to the biggest massacre in the history of electronic music. On November 3, 2007 during a gig in Venezuela a shooting spree broke out. Four people were killed and five were injured at an event of 7,000 people.
Quite a tragedy that he obviously had no control over. Luckily Halloween at club Mansion didn't even have one argument in the crowd. Everyone had a great time and the event was a tremendous success. The staff there really goes out of their way to make sure you have a great experience there as well. Big thanks to Dwane, Chelsea, and Adrian.

A FEW FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE CITY OF MIA:
Miami is obviously a beautiful city with a ton to offer to anyone. I think we're all aware of this. There are some things that don't get said about Miami though. Just as I have issues with New York, I have some with Miami too. For one thing the traffic can be horrible. The roads in South Beach are not very wide and there is no real public transportation system. They also run out of cabs at times during WMC as well. The weather in Miami is not the nicest in all of Florida. The warmest yes, but not close to the best. It is uncomfortably humid and when it rains you feel like you are in the middle of a monsoon. Homelessness is an issue all throughout Florida. In Miami you can expect to have to interact with the homeless like it or not. They are everywhere and can sometimes be cracky/scary. They are usually harmless, but they can be pretty annoying when they incessantly talk in a their cracky jibberish. But overall I love Miami like a second home and cannot wait until I go back for WMC.
